You belong on the air at KZYX, Marco. Until then,, I'm happy that you are part of the KMEC family.

The previous program director never wrote back to me, despite my
having written at least once a week. The current program director just
wrote back after three weeks. And I replied, and here is that:

I did it for nearly 15 years on KMFB, then KMFB was bought up and
destroyed and I applied to KZYX. That was four and a half years ago. I
waited six months, became frustrated, called Bob Young at KNYO and was
on the air there within a week. After a couple of years of working there
and improving the station, I called KMEC and Ed and Sid found a way to
automatically grab the live stream of my show in progress at midnight
and then I'm on there too. I do the show every Friday night from
wherever I am, using a portable studio that I made. When I'm in Fort
Bragg, people can walk in off the street and be immediately on the air;
when I'm not, it's mostly just me, reading, and playing music for breaks.

The show would fit in any time slot. Night is good. On KNYO I
start at 9pm, so I hold off on reading swear words for an hour, until
Safe Harbor hours. This Friday will be my 949th weekly six-to-eight-hour
Memo of the Air: Good Night Radio show, and there's never been even a
hint of FCC trouble or legal trouble of any kind because of it. You have
nothing like my show on KZYX. You already have dozens of shows where
people are just playing CDs or playing a playlist from their iPod. I am
inviting you to make improving the station a priority.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath about that. That's exactly what I
was told in February of 2012, and then I wrote to the programming
committee and filled out forms and met with Mary Aigner and found out
that the programming committee had no power at all and, as Mary said,
"Nobody's gonna read that."

Is Stuart Campbell the chairman of the new programming committee?
Because he will never allow my show on KZYX. And who else is there? And
do I get a vote on who's on that committee?

And, Alice, that's another thing I've heard before, for years and
years. If you're gonna do it, do it right now. You don't have to listen
to a whole six-to-eight-hour show. Just download the latest show and
skip around in it. I stream to the various transmitters in relatively
high quality stereo but the recording is only in speech-quality
monaural, so music sounds a lot better on the air than on the recording,
just to let you know.
