Hi Tim,

I haven't heard from you lately. Have you gotten permission from your program director to read the following statement on

your radio show this week?: "you seem to have attracted a critical mass of assholes to yourself so far, and not much else."

You gave me your permission to read it. But I don't want to get you in trouble. So I'm copying this to your general manager:

gm (at) kzyx.org. Just in case it slipped your mind. If you can't get permission for me to read that statement, maybe you can

read it. Or else explain to your listening audience why you can't.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Peterson

Hi Tim,

As I understand it, you're giving me advance permission to read the following excerpt

on your next KZYX radio show: "you seem to have attracted a critical mass of assholes

to yourself so far, and not much else." All I need now is advance permission from your

program director or manager. As I'm sure you know, it's KZYX policy. On page eighteen

of the KZYX Station Handbook here:

http://media.kzyx.org/mp3/Policies/KZYX%20Programmer%20Handbook.pdf

It's item number three: "Any program material containing 'sensitive language' must be

cleared in writing with the PD or manager before being aired." I wasn't sure what was

included in 'sensitive language.' So I looked it up. At the U.S. Congress. Right here:

https://www.congress.gov/108/bills/hr3687/BILLS-108hr3687ih.pdf

As you can see at line nine, saying the word 'asshole' on the air is a federal offense.

So you gave me permission to commit a crime on your radio show. Nice. Just make

sure you get permission from your manager for that too. I'm not sure who that is

now. I can't keep up with all the management turnover there these days.

If you're thinking there's a safe harbor for that word, you might take a peek at that

Station Handbook. At the end of the paragraph titled, 'INDECENCY.' Where it says,

"As of this writing there is NO 'safe harbor' at any time of day, however." I'm sure

you already knew that. This is just to refresh your memory.

The subject I'd like to talk about is something you seem to know something about.

In fact, you mentioned it in the same post: "I don't know if i'm more irked by cyber-

bullies, or by their sexual fantasies .. this latest headcase seems primed for both."

So I'd like to cover cyberbullies, their sexual fantasies and headcases. If you don't

mind.

Before we do, make sure to review page eighteen of your Station Handbook. Under

the paragraph titled, 'ON-AIR 'PERSONAL ATTACK'. Where it says, "According to the

FCC, a Personal Attack occurs when, during the discussion of a controversial issue of

public importance, programming is broadcast that attacks the honesty, character,

integrity, or like personal qualities of a person or group." And -- by the way -- that

applies to your other guest(s). That's covered in the last paragraph on page nine.

Where it says, "You are responsible for the conduct, both on and off air, of anyone

you bring into the studio." So if there actually are any on-air personal attacks, you'll

be taking the blame for them. No matter who does the attacking.

I'd also like to discuss your views on handling hateful people. And exactly what you

meant by this: "i know it means work to keep haters in check -- or lose them if they

can't throw a towel over it." I didn't see anything like that in the Station Handbook.

Maybe you can write a handbook on it.

I'm really looking forward to discussing these subjects on your radio show. But as

Mr./Ms. SM advises, be certain to back your contentions up with facts. And make

sure to follow the Station Handbook while you're doing it.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Peterson

please do. you seem quite the expert on everything, can you
handle public rejection? not from the host, but from other
callers? btw, call earlier in the show for a bigger audience.
maybe we can raise some silent dough...
