I'm not certain if anyone has asked but Monday's BOD meeting went off
without a hitch. There were about 30 people in attendance including about a
dozen listeners from the south coast. The Point Arena Mayor Jim Koogle and
City Manager Richard Shoemaker both came to the meeting and expressed their
gratitude for having the meeting in Point Arena, and made a point of asking
when we might see an improvement in the 90.7 signal as there are so many
listeners on the coast who'd like an improved signal.
I did hear that someone was wondering why the meeting took place in Point
Arena. The simple answer is that not all of our listeners live in Willits,
Ukiah, Fort Bragg, Little River, Anderson Valley or any of the other
locations for previous board meetings. In fact we have members all down the
coast who listen over the air from as far away as Bodega. I recalled having
attended meetings on the south coast in years past, but erroneously thought
board meetings had taken place on the south coast. Meetings, yes. Board
meetings, no.
For the record, Lorraine and Meg and I discussed the option of a BOD meeting
in Point Arena back in June. I was tasked to secure the space and did just
that two months ago by personally visiting the library and speaking with
librarian Julia Larke. As a volunteer with Friends of the Coast Community
Library, I was permitted to set up, tear down, and lock up after the meeting
which simplified everything. All in all, I believe the locals who attended
were pleased that we (finally) had a meeting on the south coast and
encouraged us to keep Point Arena in the rotation. We should always strive
to reach out to all of our listeners, not just those in Mendocino County's
'big cities'.
