ha...good luck getting the tar off, king...and bad news revolutionaries--that's
quite a roster. relax...you're all being played still...
i agree--this list IS useful [despite the tarbaby] for actual open discussion
[despite marco], tho maybe not for showing any love for the work-in-progress that
mcpb is...
---
Relax, King. It's good cop//bad cop. Your placating and pacifying has its place. And
what I do has its place.
We're all a team, each with our own personalities, skill sets, histories, and unique
experiences with KZYX. You. Me. Dennis. Marco. Doug. Beth. Sheila. Norman. Mary.
Peter. Sister Yasmin. And others.
Relax, brother.

I agree Norm. There is not only a place for KZYXtalk, it is the ONLY PLACE where
unrestricted discussion can take place Until another such place is created KZYXtalk
has a very important role to play and one which many of us appreciate.
I have my thoughts on the current situation on our list and at MCPB/KZYX:
1) I agree with Jane Futcher'w September 8 critique of John Sakowicz (below) and I
agree with Stuart Cohen September 25 (below).
2) This list must have the intelligence and the courage to insist on the same
transparency (honesty) from the critics as we do from management, board or anyone
else. That is the essence of integrity. I cannot prevent, and for the sake of free
speech I WOULD NOT PREVENT John Sakowicz from posting whatever he wants to the list.
But by the same token, he cannot prevent me from stating that his hyperbole,
bombast, and character assassination DO NOT SPEAK FOR ME, no matter how much I may
agree with some of the things he says he stands for.
3) It is my feeling that IF the other members of the KZYX board would engage this
list (KZYXtalk) as Jane Futcher has THEN the problems, including the legal hassles,
will be resolved in open discussion without the expense of lawyers, and our radio
station will be much the better for it.
4) Rather than talk to us on this list or any other open forum, the board keeps a
curtain over its activities. It makes decisions at private meetings and presents
them at infrequent public board meeting. This includes the latest shuffle of board
and programming positions, and the selection of a new "interim general manager." No
one but the privileged few were involved in that decision. It shows their contempt
for our discussion and causes some of us to consider legal action.
5) It has been know for some time that FCC is not where the legal challenge lies.
However, the continued recalcitrance of the board, including its refusal to allow
members to review public documents, could lead to legal action to enforce nonprofit
law. This is a costly alternative to talking with the critics.
6) Along with all the critics, I emphatically agree with the committee structure
that is beginning. However it is not a substitute for everyday openness and
willingness to face criticism.
For KZYXtalk,
King Collins, KZYX board 2003-2005
