Subject: Fwd: Aigner Resigns
Dear friends of public radio here in Mendocino County,
In recently describing KZYX to a few folks in county government, following Stuart Campbell's pitch for a part of the $186,000 in community grants that the Board of Supervisors was making last Tuesday, I said that KZYX was best described as "Aigner Radio", such has been Mary Aigner's Stalin-like total control she has here at the station for the past 20 years.
Finally, at last, we are free to be a truly "public" public radio station.
Finally.
Finally, I'll be appealing my suspension as a host and producer of a show that I did at KZYX for six and a half years, and continue to do at KMEC. The show, incidentally, is up for a $211,000 grant from a major foundation. We have A-list guests. We do important work in the area of investigative journalism. Do believe me? Ask Benj Thomas. He follows my show at KMEC.
And my show is a proven money maker locally. In my last pledge drive at KZYX, I raised $2,500 in my hour.
I want my appeal and grievance hearing to be heard from someone other than Stuart Campbell. Why? Because Aigner, with Campbell's acquiescence, purged too many of us.
Me. Doug McKenty. Norman De Vall. All three of us in just the last two years.
Before us, KC Meadows, Els Cooperrider. Beth Bosk. Christina Aanestad, and Marco McClean were all purged by Aigner. And many others.
I know a lawsuit is in the works. Indeed, I want to fund it. Perhaps KZYX can come around to following up on Aigner's resignation with a few other much-needed reforms. It's my guess that the lawsuit will be uglier and more expensive than the FCC complaints.
We'll see what direction the KZYX Board wants to take.
Happy Thanksgiving. Love to All.
John

My Dear Programmers & Friends
After 22 years working here at KZYX, it’s time for me to hand over the reins. I’ve had some interesting opportunities come up that I’d like to pursue.
It’s been a great pleasure and an honor to work here and I can’t think of a more interesting or gratify place to work. I’m constantly amazed by your talent, passion and commitment to the cause of creating the best community radio we can in service to the people of Mendocino County .
While we’ve had our share of challenges and growing pains over the 26 years KZYX has been on the air, the station is in a very strong position right now, as evidenced by our remarkably successful pledge drive this fall. And there are a lot of talented & dedicated people – yourselves included – who are involved at this time and are poised & ready to take the station to the next level. I’m confident that there’s someone out there ready willing & able to fill the position of program director with the taste, creativity, passion and dedication necessary to serve the people of Mendocino County with the best possible community radio. While I’ll no longer be on the staff here, I intend to stay involved with KZYX and hope to be able to continue to contribute for awhile to come.
I’m committed to making this transition as smooth and seamless as possible and expect to be here on a regular basis through the end of January, as well as being available to assist in whatever capacity I can beyond that.
Thank you again for all that you do to make this such a wonderful little radio station.
It has truly been a pleasure to work with you.
Mary
