 >John, As you are relativly new to the area and inexperiencd in public
radio operations, I suggest that your angry perspective on Mary Aigner
is both misinformed and unnecessary. Running a 7/24 public operation of
any kind requires a really dedicated and driven person. That person must
take all the resources and present a smooth operation while involving
the entire community. I couldn't do it nor could you. That kind of
performance requires solid structure that must not accept the vagaries
of poorly performing volunteer programmers who,by nature, are
inconsistent and somewhat intermittent. If she was supported by a stern
program committee who would support the scheduling and mission of
volunteers she could take a breath occasionally. If you add a
administrative crew who provide real network for smooth manageable
operation and the station would smoothly continue it's growth to a real
beacon to our evolving region. Give Mary a lot of slack John, she has
done a great job under trying conditions - and still is less of a grouch
than thou. An enlightened board will help.

Marco here, BC. I have been here on the coast since 1979 and I am
very experienced in all aspects of traditional media. I'm sure I don't
have to list my resume again for you. Publishing, teevee, teaching,
radio (noncommercial and commercial), and all of it entirely open and
transparent and inviting everyone to participate who wants to --in some
of the operations that meant coordinating hundreds of people-- and none
of it paid for with tax money but by the sweat of my brow. In over
thirty years I have never missed a deadline or an airdate.
If Mary Aigner's and John Coate's cushy jobs are so darn hard for
them --with a government grant paying to operate all aspects of the
station, and every dollar of every membership going into their pocket
and not to improve or feed the station-- it's because they're
incompetent at it. And they are exactly as bad in every way as John
Sakowicz describes them to be. Worse in some ways.
I agree with you that an enlightened board might help. The current
and past MCPB boards have been a brick wall against improvement and
change. Suppose one or two slightly more enlightened board members get
elected. That would be nice, but /how/ will it help, without cutting out
the rot?
Nothing has changed for the better at KZYX in its 25 years of
existence. John Sakowicz is taking all the flak, for troubles the board
and manage brought on themselves, because he won't just shut up about it
and smile like everyone else does.

In other news, my KNYO Memo of the Air: Good Night Radio show
starts at 9pm tonight. 107.7fm in or near Fort Bragg. I'll be doing it
by live remote from Juanita's kitchen, so if you were planning to come
to the station on Franklin Street tonight and play music or talk about
your project, or whatever, you'll have to wait till next week, when I'll
be there.
Also you can contact Bob Young via http://knyo.org and arrange to
have your own show on KNYO. Slots are available.
