Stuart,

I'm a board director who was purged without cause, Stuart.

Copying the board on my show at KMEC is my way of letting the entire board know the quality of programming that KZYX is losing out on. Along with the quality of my programming, KZYX also loses out on my listeners and member support.

On "The Discussion" last week, I believe a listener who called in made exactly that point.

Except for my show's press releases, I don't think the full board would know any of this background. It is my strong belief that the loss of quality programming -- me, Doug McKenty, Norman de Vall, Marco McClean, and others -- and the accompanying loss of listeners and members, is, in fact, board business. It goes to the heart of board business at a presumably public radio station.

Which reminds me: When am I being scheduled for "The Discussion"? I made repeated requests to be on the show. As a sitting board director, it's my right to be on the show. Again, the strategy of censoring, silencing, and purging the station's critics as a way of dealing with dissent has a bad tendency to backfire. Those who are censored, silenced, and purged complain to regulatory agencies -- the FCC, the CPB, and the California Secretary of State.

Finally, your decision not to post an announcement of your show to the board listserv is your decision, and yours alone. I wish you would post your show. I wish Jane and Benj would post their shows. It's consistent with the policy of board collegiality. Besides, we -- or at least, I -- don't get much mail on the board listserv. I get perhaps one email a week from other board members on the board listserv. It seems that the vast majority of board business is conducted off the board listserv. Correct me, if I'm wrong.

Finally, there's nothing in the By-laws that prohibit these posts. And, there's the matter of precedent. I've posted my shows to the listserv consistently since I was elected to the board. That's probably a hundred shows.

John
