Clay Eubank 2015 Board Candidate Statement
Clay R. Eubank – District 5
I have been an active listener and fan of community radio for over 25 years. I have been enjoying KZYX programming since I moved here in 2010. I’m especially fond of Fred Wooly’s Audible feast, The Renewable Energy Hour, and Mind, Body, and Health.

I believe very strongly that only an educated electorate can make good decisions in a democracy. Community radio is an essential element in educating the public and holding elected officials accountable for their actions.

I believe that my skill sets can be of value to KZYX. Those skill sets include 30 years in the news media, a BS in Business Management, and a MA in Organization Development. I have worked in management positions in both volunteer and paid organizations, developing budgets, facilitating organizational change, and helping to create shared visions.

I also believe that transparency and collaboration are an important part of any non-profit governance. It is the Boards responsibility to the community to work with the stake holders and to be transparent with those who support the organization. I believe that all voices have a right to be heard in a community organization such as this.

I am currently working with the Anderson Valley Ambulance as the Assistant Manager and the Anderson Valley Fire Department as the Training Officer. I have recently been appointed to the Anderson Valley Health Clinic Board of Directors as well.

More important than my background, I bring a belief in and a passion for Public Radio and its mission. Community radio has been a part of my family for years and I’m proud to say my children now listen to it as well. I’m hoping for this to pass down for generations to come.

As newspapers struggle to redefine themselves, Public Radio and especially community radio has filled much of the gap created by their changing mission. This is a time of great opportunity and change in the world of journalism and I believe that community radio and local stations such as KZYX in particular will be important players in that change.
