The membership controls nothing, Doug. You know that. I know that. Everybody know that.
One person -- and one person only -- controls programing. She has total control over programming, and, indeed, she has control over most of KZYX's operations. She has been the one constant during the station's 25-year history, even as a multitude of General Managers have come and gone.
That person is Mary Aigner.

I brought up the mission in my three minute statement at the meeting Monday. It is at the center of my campaign for the board. I felt like the current board members were receptive to what I said.
Stuart brought up that board members are responsible for following the Mission. In my talk I mentioned that I thought a lot of frustration is felt by those members who do not feel the membership "controls the stations programming and operational philosophy." I also mentioned that even members with a minority view should have a venue where they can say what they feel and know they have been heard. I believe a lack of this is the root of much of the frustration surrounding the station among many in our community and would like to see more effort to foster better communication about station policy.

>>> Yes, you have that right about David Hopmann, and he is still around, comes to the board meetings. Was at the last one and the one before that. He surely the main player in managment's current legal team. He was the president of the board when the Centrist takeover was executed 2010 or so? And I think he was around before that. During his time as president of the board, he saw to the complete eradication of the Grady committee system with its built in member participation. Ending the committee system was part of estabishing CEO model, in which the board gives up its oversight responsibility and becomes a tool of management.

>>> Who actually devised the takeover plan? Hopmann was the lawyer who gave the it credibility. I think it was Tony Miksak (who personally solicited Coate) and Coate, with the happy cooperation of Mary Aigner.

>>> The argument of the centrists, then as now, is that member control is ridiculous, and besides nobody is interested in democracy and how radio is produced. Listeners are only interested in what they hear.

>>> However some of us have the stubborn belief that how our radio is produced has a lot to do with its quality. --king
