To Ed Keller,

You're right. Spending all day next Monday interviewing the five final candidates for the GM/Executive Director position at KZYX will be a long day, indeed. Let's keep the focus on the candidates.

That said, unfortunately, the Search Committee advanced three candidates who I personally believe do not belong in the top five. One candidate, Jeffery P., has lived in Shanghai, China, for the past 25-years. An ex-patriot? In China? Unbelievable! The other candidate, Richard P., is currently unemployed, was highly controversial at KPFA according an online search, and jumps around from job to job, never seeming to last more than a year or two in any one job. And the last candidate is our current interim GM/Executive Director, Stuart C., has absolutely no non-profit fundraising/administration experience except for the experience we gave him -- none -- and has no management experience in any other capacity, and who is an nontenured, part-time, adjunct faculty at a junior college and who receives lousy ratings from his student at ratemyprofessors.com and who tells his students he "can't wait to retire.".

Where did we go wrong in our search?

How did we bypass Cynthia C., the music director at KMUD, who supervising 150 volunteer programmers?

And what about Marco M. and Doug M. right here at KZYX.? We know them. Doug M. is a former Board Director and programmer here at our beloved station. Meanwhile, Marco M. is one of the original incorporators at KZYX, and he is currently a well-respected programmer at KNYO and KMEC.

Jeez!

KZYX deserves Cynthia C., Doug M, and Marco M. to be in the final five.

The people of Mendocino County deserve the. They deserve better than .the final five that the Search Committee haws chosen..

On Monday, I'm focusing on the two viable candidates -- I won't name them here. We know who they are. On Monday, I'll interview all five final candidates, of course, but how these three of five named above made it to the final round is a bit of mystery.

The Search Committee rushed the search. They didn't do their homework. The Search Committee itself was not diverse in including Board Directors, like myself, with minority points of view who represent the one third of our membership who voted for reform in our last elections.

Frankly, it's embarrassing.
