Subject: Re: [KZYX-Board]- Closing for applications
Dear Mr. Clay Eubank, Chair of the Search Committee and Board Director:
I think the entire Board of Directors of the Mendocino Public Broadcasting Corporation (MCPB) should have the opportunity to at least meet every candidate. No candidate who "does not make the cut" should be "culled", as Board Director Ed Keller so coldly suggests.
God, Keller disgusts me. Make the cut? Culling? Really? KZYX is public radio, for crying out loud.
Keller's talk scares me. Keller should have been at the railroad platform with Josef Mengele and Rudolf Hoess at Auschwitz-Birkenau "culling" women and children from able-bodied men and other possible slave laborers.
Culling, indeed.
Think about it, Clay. Five minutes for each candidate. With their resumes and applications materials in every Board Director's hands before the Board meeting. Twelve candidates is not a long list. Twelve candidates at five minutes apiece is one hour.
We can do that.
Cull no one.
Be inclusive.
Also, a word to the wise. Be forewarned. If Stuart Campbell is hired, it's an "inside job". Expect the lawsuit. I know the possible plaintiffs. It won't be pretty.
Stuart Campbell wasn't even part of the station five years ago. His rise to power is breathtaking.
Another thing. Campbell is in the long line of GMs here at KZYX, like John Coate, who are autocratic, arrogant, controlling, exclusionary, and divisive. We need something different. We need a new GM who is a bridge builder. A reconciliator. A coalition builder.
I put the premium on the following management styles: consultative, persuasive, democratic.
With Coate, and now Mary Aigner, gone, KZYX could be reborn.
This dream is possible.
Remember: Campbell was Coate's and Aigner's boy. He's old news, not the future. He's filling in. He's not the real thing.
Besides, Campbell is up against candidates much more qualified candidates, like Marco McClean, who were among the original incorporators of KZYX and part of the first slate of broadcasters 25-years ago. Campbell also up against candidates like Lorraine Dechter who have worked for real public radio stations, like the one in Chico, CA...not the closed, private clubhouse we are here at KZYX while pretending to be at "public" radio station.
I'm going to copy my email to you on the kzyxtalk listserv. I won't copy your email, because I don't have your permission.
Thank you in advance for being inclusive and not culling candidates.
John Sakowicz
MCPB Board of Directors (2013-201), Board Treasurer (2014)
