((Some have asked if there have been replies to my post about Norm de Vall. No one has written to me directly, but there have been a lot of hits on greenmac that indicate interest from some people. I don't know who they are.}}

As for Mary Aigner's attack on Norman de Val: What can I say? I know how it feels to me. It feels like a strike against everything I love, And it hurts. And it is a major loss for those of us who care about county politics, for sure.

There are very few like Norm de Vall around here. I really don't know him personally, but I know him through his interviews with so many public figures in this county. He knows what he is talking about. He's served in public office. He knows everyone including the supervisors and they all respect him.

But most of all, and what makes him so valuable as an interviewer, is that he has the right attitude. He loves democracy, and his heart is with regular people and against the bureaucracy. He asks the right questions.

Norm de Vall, because of who he is, was able to start a public listserve at MCN which continues to be a place for open dialog and discussion about KZYX. He created KZYXtalk at the urging of many others, including even supervisor McCowen who said at a board meeting: "Don't shy away from controversy. Address it in an open lines format."

KZYXtalk has already clarified a lot of important issues and brought forward good ideas to support the KZYX as a community radio station. There are times when one or another of us has suffered some hard talk, but that is the price of admission to the arena of free dialog. And Norman has said that KZYXtalk will continue.

Thank you, Norman de Vall, for having the courage of your convictions. And as Yogi Berra said: It ain't over 'til it's over.

Mary Aigner said: "Anyone who criticizes the station or enables others to do so won't have a microphone." For more see KZYXtalk. Pictures and comments also available at
