KZYXtalk and others,
John Sakowicz got it right on the Ukiah studio costs. As the right tackle on my high school football team used to say "A blind hog will find an acorn every now and then" (Don't worry, John can take it. and if you don't believe it watch the recent board meeting, now available for viewing on www.mendocinotv.com. )

".... A Ukiah studio is as simple as renting studio time...and sending the signal to Philo via VoIP (Voice over Internet). A $50,000-$100,000 pricetag for a Ukiah studio is insane. No new physical studio is necessary. No new tower is necessary. No satellite uplink is necessary....When I first started my show with co-host Jay Johnson six years ago, we broadcast our show from a little studio in Jay' Johnson's office on State Street in Ukiah. It worked fine...."
FROM THE ARCHIVES: The same idea was proposed by Interim GM. Here's a quote from my report of the May 10 2005, KZYX Board Meeting In Ukiah (full report at www.greenmac.com. I found it my searching for Mitchell Holman):
"....Ukiah Studio Project. The new "Interim General Manager" Mitchell Holman promised to provide the Ukiah Studio Committee with an all-in-one computerized transportable console. I don't think that quite describes it right. The cost of about $5000.00 would be paid out of the funds already donated to KZYX for the Ukiah studio. It sounded like a good idea to me. I told him that the KMEC folks would need to see it, and he said he would email the information. This report and follow up materials will be sent to the techs in the Ukiah studio group, and other who express interest."
That was as close as the Ukiah studio got to happening, and before long MItchell was gone as well as all thought of actually creating a Ukiah satellite studio. That was nine years ago.

I'll explain why.
When I first started my show with co-host Jay Johnson six years ago, we broadcast our show from a little studio in Jay' Johnson's office on State Street in Ukiah. It worked fine. And it worked fine for more than a year. Jay Johnson was a software engineer. Brilliant guy.
But Coate was threatened by our independence, I think. So, Coate found a bogus excuse to suspend Jay Johnson from the air -- something about a stupid contest Jay Johnson ran for about five minutes during a show. Jay Johnson told Coate to fu*k off and quit. My show was moved back to Philo, where it's been ever since. John (S)"

"....Many people wish to open a Ukiah studio and office. The issue is location and cost. The former is in progress. The latter will take, at minimum, between $50,000 and $100,000 dollars. That’s being worked on as well. David"
