[Kzyxtalk] 7-second stoopid censoring machine

Here, from Marco McClean, is a read on the FCC's policy on vernacular
language--or "bad" language, for you dense readers. Marco has done his
"Memo of the Air", his unbroken string of amazing radio shows, unbroken
for--I dunno-- fifty-two times twenty or so. Pushing 850, I think. He
broadcasts whatever seems suitable, in whatever he's reading. He's never
had the sleetest problem with Big Authority. The littleteenyauthority
that has always prevailed at KZYX, natcherly, has it wrong, and the
station's gone & spent another Grand it should spend on renting an pest
exterminator and a white tornado to clear that funky place the. fuck. OUT!

Marco wrote, quoting:

"Regarding the safe harbor period, Congress and the courts have
instructed the Commission only to enforce the indecency standard between
the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., local time. - when children are more
likely to be in the audience. As a consequence, the Commission does not
take action on indecent material aired between 10 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. In
this way, constitutionally-protected free speech rights of adults are
balanced with the need to protect children from harmful content.

"Similarly, under court and agency precedent, the Commission's indecency
enforcement is limited to complaints alleging the broadcast of material
that describes or depicts sexual or excretory material. Complaints about
broadcast content involving smoking or drug use, for example, do not
come within the Commission's statutory authority over indecency. The
Bureau encourages consumers with complaints about offensive but
non-indecent material to express their concerns directly to their local
broadcasters."

> King, you know the FCC prohibits certain language on the air. The delay machine allows the station to avoid a large fine or worse from the FCC. It's not censorship and you do the programmers a disservice by accusing us of censoring anything other than the words prohibited by the FCC. This nonsense of yours certainly isn't going to get you elected to the board. Why not focus on the real issues instead of ridiculous accusations?
