I was pleased to learn about the listserv from King as a result of his inquiry and joined it immediately. I have been reading the comments and learning. What should be clear from my statements to the members via the election mailing and from my recent letter to the AVA is that I approach (can only approach) these issues from a fresh mind, being newer to Mendocino County. (I come from Vermont.) 

It seems many folks are trying to see the whole elephant, which is good, but that things have evolved into argument. One problem I see is that the tone of the argument is becoming part of the elephant, or is at least being mistaken for the elephant. I trust that if we muster open minds (hard to do on the fly, but there is no other time or place) ask and listen both ways, step back from the edge, the air can clear enough to see what needs addressing and to do that fairly.
