This morning on KZYX, Paul Lambert, producer of "Mendo Matters" and former slam-bam, 5-minute news guy at KZYX, hosted a show on marijuana with guests from Friends of the Eel, US Fish & Wildlife, and Emeralds Growers Association. I, and other listeners, found the show to be pretty lame.
It's clear Lambert doesn't know much about marijuana. He was ill-informed and error prone, with occasional lapses in editorial judgement. Additionally, there was no opportunity for caller input to present a grassroots perspective, no opportunity to speak to the local realities in our county. Lambert painted everything with a broad brush.
So let me set the record straight.
Not all growers steal water. Not all growers suck our rivers and creeks dry. And not all growers have negative environmental impact on the land on which they grow with pesticides, fungicides, and diesel from diesel generators. In fact, the only irresponsible growers I know are the "trespass growers" who grow on public lands or private property. And most, if not all, of these trespass growers aren't local people. They're gangbangers from down south.
This morning, Lambert had trouble making these distinctions.
What did the listening audience think?
Well, this is Winter Pledge Drive Week. Lambert had a goal to raise $1,500. Maybe it was $1,000. I forget. In any case, Lambert raised only $$350.
That tells you all you need to know.
The one pyrrhic victory?
KZYX listeners got one show completely dedicated to the subject of marijuana without John Coate and Mary Aigner having a cow.
