[Kzyxtalk] open lines and trading times

Sako and others keep talking about "Open Lines" like no one knows the story.
The host was suspended for not following the rules. The program was put on
hiatus until we could purchase a delay machine. They are not cheap and yet
KZYX spent the money. The delay unit is not a CD player requiring two RCA
plugs and a power cord. It requires an understanding of all of the other
expensive equipment we have and how to install and use without blowing up
some other piece of equipment. And it requires training.
It is now installed and sometime after pledge drive potential hosts will
need to be trained in its use, and will have to agree to abide by the rules
of hosting a program. Then "Open Lines" can return. There is no free speech
issue. There is no censorship issue. You people throw "free speech" and
"censorship" out as if they are facts. They are not. Obfuscation is what
this is about.

The CAB was told by Stuart Campbell, the Programmers rep, that the delay
device was being installed on Dec.18th. The following day the station had
technical problems.
The reason why we are all so much in the dark about everything the station
does is due to the reduction of meetings by the Board and the cancellation
of the January meeting with no plausible explanation besides they did it
last year as well (and got away with it.)
The meeting before an election has always been the most important one to me
because we know and can report to the general public all the information
about the candidates and the timeline for balloting which last year they
screwed up mightily by getting the mailing out late and then having two
different deadlines for the votes to be cast. This was brought to Aigner's
attention so that the station could correct the information on air but as
usual, was ignored.
It was one of the many irregularities I mentioned to the FCC as evidence
that the station is severely deficient in using its own air waves to keep
its members informed.

If the caller did not repeat his transgression of profanity after being
warned by McKenty, Mr. Bray's argument is irrelevant. Doug is obviously not
as prone to shutting up listeners, as others on the staff of KZYX certainly
are.
And this still doesn't answer of why KZYX doesn't install a 7-secong delay
for call-in shows.

John, as has been explained to all us programmers, it was NOT the profanity
that got Doug suspended - it was his failure to respond by shutting off the
caller, apologizing to the listeners, and reiterating station policy on
profanity. (I didn't hear the show, but it's my understanding from those
who did, that Doug simply let the conversation go on. As management had
previously made clear, they view that as a potentially serious FCC
infraction.) WDan followed the policy and was temporarily suspended (NOT a
"free pass" as you allege). I don't know anything about the Sherry Glaser
incident.
I know Doug believes he was set up. Doug believes a lot of things that
aren't necessarily so. He sees conspiracies everywhere. His belief that he
was being set up for dismissal became a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy.
(When you believe strongly in something, you behave in such a way as to make
it become true.)

Doug McKenty was kicked off the air as a result of Coate's selective
enforcement of the FCC's profanity policy, Tim, and you know it. Recently,
W. Dan got a free pass. He was back on the air after a token suspension.
Someone told me a profanity also aired on Sherry Glaser's show. I don't know
for sure, because I didn't hear it.
In any case, read Doug's recent letter in the Ukiah Daily Journal explaining
how he believes he was set up by station management.
