[Kzyxtalk] Fwd: Replacing Media Matters

Dear John S.
What has happened to you?
The sign you're referring to is humorous, although you appear to be
humorless. The sign is an emphatic point that the topic of marijuana is
mentioned every day on KZYX in some fashion or another and I might add,
never in ridicule.
I don't recall anyone at KZYX-on or off the air-ever campaigning against the
use, cultivation, distribution, medicinal value, or economics of
cannabis-related products. And because it's mentioned everyday, there is no
need for a specific program to talk about nothing but marijuana. It's
covered regularly by Pacifica programs, NPR programs, PRI programs,
independent programs, and most consistently by KZYX programmers. We've had
the Sheriff on the air talking about staying within the laws, zip-ties, and
more.
Your decision to personalize your crusade against the station by using a
family member's personal medical history seems a bit much. Programming
decisions about how and when marijuana is mentioned on air and in what
context are at the sole discretion of the programmers. As for the sign, you
really do need to get control of your arguments and find a sense of humor.

Tim,
There's actually a sign above Rich Culbertson's desk that says, "Days that
marijuana hasn't been mentioned...zero."
The sign has always offended me. Deeply offended me. I have a 33-year old
daughter who was diagnosed with MS when she was 18-years old. That's so
young that the CDC's epidemiology charts for MS don't even start until
21-years old -- and there are hardly any patients in the U.S. under 30-years
old.
My daughter is a medical marijuana patient. She juices live bud as well as
uses her vaporizer. And she is in remission. She has been in remission for
the last four or five years.
Since 2000, my daughter -- a single mother -- has lived in Denver. She has
been a strong advocate for decriminalization in Colorado.
Marijuana is her medicine.
I wish marijuana were mentioned more on KZYX.
I wish William Courtney, M.D. -- the country's top researcher on the
endogenous cannabinoid system and phytocannabinoids -- -- had a show on
KZYX.
Even though Dr. Courtney lives in Willits, he has to go all the way to
KMUD's studio in Redway to do his show. Why? Why not KZYX? Why can't KZYX
take a leadership position in this area?
John

Cannabis gets mentioned so often, everyone at the station is sick of the
subject. It is a TIRESOME topic, because it comes up so often.

Cannabis is indeed a forbidden topic at the station.
