[Kzyxtalk] Problems at our station

Peter,
One of the largest problems with station mgmt. is they are using the corporate tactic of privacy protection to prevent members from communicating with each other. While the Bylaws state that members can meet and make Bylaw changes, mgmt has stated that they maintain the right to withhold that info but will accommodate us by sending whatever we want to say to the members at our expense. So everything has to go through their hands which I think violates the privacy of members by not allowing them to discuss solutions to problems without mgmt. inclusion.
Also, they have stacked the Bd. with people who see their primary role, not as the representatives of the members but the defenders of mgmt. no matter how egregious their behavior. That is why the upcoming election is so important. We, KZYX Members for Change, have found people to run who want to level the playing field so members are not ignored and a serious discussion of the issues can occur at Board meetings.
Right now, Public Comment is before any serious agenda items so you can't comment on their discussion or actions. Additionally, they are not required to publish their agenda so they don't.
We have a petition circulating that is meant to circumvent the cost of a mail out that deals with this issue as well as requiring at least two Bd. members to go on air once a month to discuss any issue that callers bring up. This is because the Bd. has cancelled meetings with no explanation and hasn't met since October.
That's just the beginning of the problem. Essentially it boils down to the power of a community station is in the hands of three people--the General Manager, who has elevated himself to the position of Executive Director(not a position noted in the Bylaws), the Program Director (who ignored the advice of the Program Advisory Committee when one was functional) & the Board President who doesn't run meetings democratically and seems determined to get as little input as possible from those who take time out to attend the Board meeting.
The next meeting is March 3rd at the Ft. Bragg Senior Center at 6 p.m. Please consider attending and judge for yourself.
