Dear Announcers, Discussers and KZ-talkers,
Oh please don't miss Arundhati Roy, today. (KZYX, 4pm) I watched the show on line, and I am stunned, awed, filled with admiration, once again by this exquisite person. Seeing her helps. But folks, if you want to know what great intellect and great poetry is, you can look her in the face. It's Arundhati Roy. She has a new book: Capitalism: A Ghost Story. What she says is clear as a bell, but if you are like me you won't get it all at once. Some things are worth hearing more than once, and I will. --king collins

After publishing God of Small Things, Roy achieved stardom and adulation world wide. A friend asked her what more could she imagine, to which she responded:

The only dream worth having, I told my friend, is to dream that you will live while you’re alive and die only when you’re dead.
’Which means exactly what?’
I tried to explain, but didn’t do a very good job of it. Sometimes I need to write to think. So I wrote it down for her on a paper napkin. And this is what I wrote:
To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget. Arundhati Roy, from Capitalism: A Ghost Story.
