RE: Ref Public Hearing 1/12/15 Ref CDBG

My name is Tammy Davis and I have been a Fort Bragg area resident for more than 13 years. I am
writing this letter to declare
my support for the use of recently awarded CDBG funds to purchase
the former Old Coast Hotel at 101 North Franklin Street on
behalf of the Mendocino Coast
Hospitality Center.

I was an employee at the Old Coast Hotel briefly about 6 or 7 years ago. This location is perfect for
use as transitional housing and as a whole health service center for
people in and around our
community in need of essential services.
Not only is it centrally located with good access to other
necessary
services, it also provides ample garden space for food production, spacious meeting
rooms, and a variety
of opportunities for social enterprise development. And perhaps even more
important, the utilization of this vacant historical building
and property for the purposes described,
would represent
a huge leap forward in promoting our city as one that is inclusive, that
cares about
ALL people, and
one that has zero tolerance for discrimination, institutional or otherwise, and the
criminalization of the poor.

Friends in the Love in Action Network,

Great News! The Community Development Block Grant sought this spring by
the City of Fort Bragg has been awarded. That means there is
funding available for the purchase of an existing structure to house
Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center (MCHC) as they provide services for
our neighbors homeless and/or with mental health issues. Needed from you
by Wednesday, January 7, are letters of support for a change of
address from that in the original grant application.

MCHC proposes to acquire the “Old Coast Hotel” at 101 N. Franklin Street
in Fort Braggto locate MCHC’s offices, homeless and mental health
case management services, wellness and homeless resource centers,
transitional housing, and to have iCMS co-locate the Access Center. There
are no planning issues for the proposed uses and the funding is in all
in place, from the grant and from a donation.

Your letters of support may be submitted directly to the City Clerk
Cindy Van Wormer cvanwormer at fortbragg.com
<mailto:cvanwormer at fortbragg.com> marked “Ref Public Hearing
1/12/15 ref CDBG”. Please copy (cc) all letters to Anna Shaw, Executive
Director, MCHC, anna at mendocinochc.org <mailto:anna at mendocinochc.org>.
Remember letters are sought
by Wednesday 1/7/15. A sample letter is attached.

Finding this property is like a dream come true. In this location MCHC
can better meet the needs of our coastal community. If you have questions,
don’t hesitate to contact Anna Shaw. Thanks in advance for your support.

Blessings,

Susan Holli
