Decolonization of Mind - Discussion Group - January Meeting
===========================================================
Topic: Authentic Personal Engagement Via Non-Violent Communication
==================================================================
Next meeting – Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at 12:30PM (we go until 2:00PM)
Note - we meet on the second Tuesdays of each month, so please mark your calendars.
Building on the introduction to the language of Non-Violent Communication (NVC) provided by Kelly Larson and Sandy Marshall at our December 2014 meeting, Michael and Maria Teresa will help us explore how "NVC consciousness" can inform and enhance our interactions in the world. They will present the principles underlying "universal dialog", "unconditional positive regard", "empathic listening", and "engaging the third chair", and will suggest ways in which application of these principles can transform seemingly irreconcilable communications into opportunities for connection. The possibility of authentic personal engagement can then show up, as distinct from falling into the programmed thinking and reacting patterns that the larger culture encourages us to employ (separation, victimhood, etc.).
Maria Teresa and Michael have been studying NVC with Miki Kashtan and other NVC teachers for several years. They lead an NVC class alternate Mondays in Mendocino. Michael has completed the 'Mediate Your Life' program that applies NVC principles to mediation and is certified as a mediator by the Recourse mediation program in Sonoma County.
This meeting will be held at John Anderson's house in Caspar - Brown Bag DIY Lunch. Thanks so much to John for his hospitality hosting the group (and also for Linda's hospitality in prior months). John's address is 14951 B Caspar Rd., which is an older redwood building just south of the Caspar Inn, in downtown Caspar. Go around to the back of the building and up the stairs to find the second floor unit, which is unit B. All are welcome.
