DECOLONIZATION OF MIND DISCUSSION GROUP
March 2015 Meeting Announcement
=========================================
Topic: MOVING FROM FEAR TO COLLABORATION
=========================================
DATE/TIME
Tuesday, March 10, 2015 @ 12:30PM (we go until 2:00PM); we meet on the second Tuesdays of each month.
MEETING DESCRIPTION
Motivated by the power of our fears, our defense structure convinces us to accept our separateness, and to avoid diversity of opinion and/or perspectives. This separateness is used by the powers that be, as well as by our own unconscious parts. One way to move to a more empowered place is to challenge that story of our separateness by exercising the collaboration muscle. In human relationships, the opposite of separation is collaboration. This is neither agreement nor compromise, but rather the honest attempt to understand and work with people with different opinions. In fact, collaboration may be more powerful in the presence of very different opinions. Together, we are developing a new story about who we are and understanding the stage in the evolution of our species that made all forms of colonization possible. In this meeting, there will be an experiential exercise to flex our atrophied collaboration muscle, an exploration into how we can include this in other settings. All are welcome to participate with other individuals interested in emerging this new story.
FACILITATOR
John Anderson has studied these unfolding methods during an MBA program in green business and a Phd program in system thinking. Our last meeting included some requests from the participants to more directly deal with fear, and in this meeting, John responds to those requests.
DECOLONIZATION OF MIND LUNCHTIME DISCUSSION GROUP
An outgrowth of Mendocino Coast Transition Towns and the Community Rights Network of Mendocino County, the discussion group was a spin-off from a weekend workshop that activist Paul Cienfuegos facilitated. That workshop, dealing with community rights, and the powers of people versus those of corporations, included a challenge from Paul that the participants not only understand how our minds have been colonized, but that we escape from that colonization. In keeping with Paul’s challenge, the decolonization of mind group seeks to go beyond the propaganda from government, the indoctrination of the public school system, the brainwashing from corporate advertising, and also the myths created and perpetuated via movies, TV, newspapers, Facebook, and other modern media. The discussion group seeks to empower people so as to emancipate themselves from all that, and to come back to our own personal power to live the life we feel called to live.
