Hi Tammy,
I am one of the American Red Cross Volunteer Nurses
for Mendocino County. Although the coastal cities may not have a
plan, Mendocino County absolutely DOES have a disaster plan. But you
are right, it isn't about prolonged feeding of hungry people cut off from
those trucks.
The Red Cross has a trailer in Ft. Bragg
full of shelter supplies. The food is limited to granola bars and
water bottles because the ARC usually subcontracts with the Salvation Army
of the Southern Baptists to conduct feeding operations. All the
MOU's are in place. There are several shelter locations, in case one
is damaged, then use another. But you are correct, Mendonoma would
be cut off except for the Gualala Fire House.
The Red
Cross has a plan coordinated with the county-wide EMS. One thing the
Red Cross needs is more trained volunteers on the Coast. Call Don
Rowe to volunteer at 707-463-2456
In Peace, Robin
