[CRNMC] Facebook page

OK,
After emailing Peter, who is now opening lines of communication with
me, and after speaking extensively with Tim and Caitlin, I have come
to the conclusion that most of the issues created with the website
and the Facebook page stem from three situations. First, the recent
departure of the "chair" of the point committee caused a lack of
communication by the core group. I was basically waiting for the
email telling me when the next teleconference was going to be when I
realized that no one was organizing the teleconferences anymore.
This led to a period of about two weeks when I don't think anybody
really knew what work was getting done. That is when I called
Caitlin to find out what was going on and antics ensued.
Two, our process committee has failed to resolve an internal conflict
that is causing some confusion. Tim and I discussed it this way.
Some of us emphasize getting the work done. Some of us emphasize
our process for getting the work done. ie in a transparent,
democratic way that reflect the feelings of a group, operating in
consensus etc. I believe we need both of these kinds of people in
order to be truly successful at what we are trying to do. The
process is important. We are involved in a social experiment to
find out if cooperative action can succeed and create political
change. Nonetheless, we can all do without that third hour of
discussion about the complexities of the consensus process when
signatures have to be signed. Our group is never going to be very
centrally controlled so sometimes people just need to make a decision
and get the work done. These two groups need to learn how to get
along. Charles Cresson Wood has resigned from the process committee
and I get the impression he did not believe it was functioning very
well Why? We need to create a process that actually results in
conflict resolution.
Three, we need to figure out a way to integrate Peter Norris into the
group. I must say that I only joined the Social Media team because
no one else did. Tim gradually, and thankfully, took over the list
serve responsibilities and I have always tried to recruit Peter onto
the team, the first thing I did was check out the CROW page and that
is when I realized how much more Peter knew about Facebook than I
did. Personally, I have never been attached to the point person
position and I think Peter should be part of the core group as he
does do a lot of work, is well connected and basically brought the
whole thing up here in the first place. I would like to have more
time to create media content for CRNMC. Despite my best attempts, I
have found it difficult to find a place for Peter to fit within the
"organic whole" that many of us spoke of at the first meeting in Ft.
Bragg, but hope we can resolve this during the point committee
teleconference scheduled for later this week.
We are involved in the sometimes difficult task of working in
community and I apologize to Peter for may over reaction yesterday.
Peter and I have established better personal communication and it
is my feeling the situation will be resolved shortly.

Thank you Caitlin, for diffusing a potential upset.
I don't believe this is anything but lack of communication. I knew
Peter was working on the website because no one else was doing it. I
didn't know that Tim was doing it as well, as he'd told everyone he
wasn't going to. Neither communicated clearly to the whole group
that they were taking it on. I wouldn't read too much more into it.

Doug asked Peter for help with the Facebook page - I only relayed the
message from Doug, it was not a request from me.
Peter sent Doug an email explaining the reasons why a new page needed
to be created - people couldn't post directly to the old page and
there were other restrictions caused by the way it had been built.
Peter fixed all the restrictions the only way possible, by building a
new page. He did this only after letting Doug know what he needed to
do - Doug did not get the email from Peter due to connectivity issues
on Doug's end.
When there was no website and none seemed to be on the horizon, at
least not in a timely fashion, Peter built one at my urging - it was
completed at the same time Tim completed his - this was not "done" to
Tim - it was simply lack of communication all around - like having
connectivity problems.
The group process has been in a disarrayed, mockery state not due to
Peter. People are busy, with full-time jobs, etc., and actions are
moving forward in many areas outside of committee input. Several
radio interviews went forward with no notification or involvement
with the Social Media or Media Committees - people are taking it upon
themselves to do what they see needs to be done in several areas - not
just Peter. While frustrating this is not all bad, the results have
been great with fabulous radio interviews, a website and a Facebook
page emerging.
Yes, communication could be better all around and I think this is the
area we are most challenged by.
Best,
Caitlin

I wanted to let you all know that the social media team had nothing
to do with the replacement of the Facebook page. Though I have
asked Peter Norris for help with it for months, he consistently
refused until last night, when Caitlin asked him again of he would
help. After not understanding my administration methods, he
unilaterally took it upon himself to make another.
He did the same thing to Tim Rice last week over the web page We
had both asked him with help on this, which he consistently denied.
The last time was literally days before Tim decided to make one
without his help. As soon as Tim was finished, Peter revealed his
web sight, a sight whose domain name and expense had not been
discussed in any way by committee and an unnecessary expense
considering he would have been welcome to use the domain name already
agreed upon (and paid for) for his project if he had accepted Tim's
offer of days before.
Peter Norris is making a mockery of our group process, confusing a
lot of people as to which web page or FB page should be printed on
what, and all this days before the Gasland II launch. The social
media and media committees reached out to him, and he refused to work
with us in any capacity. If the committee system is no longer
working, lets discuss other options. If the committee system is
still the way we are doing business, lets please require all members
of the group to conform to the process so as not to waste any of our
volunteer time.
I have realized that there has been a communication breakdown since
Kelly Larson left as our tentative "leader." We desperately need to
reorganize the point committee to ensure that jobs are getting done as
quickly as the community will allow so that no one wastes more time
and money, yet we all remain working together and on the same page.
Caitlin has taken the lead on organization but is feeling the
pressure and needs help. We will organize a point committee
conference call to discuss these issues and decide on the next step.
