All true.  Also, Petrolia, CA, in the Lost Coast region just over the Humboldt County line, is the site of the first oil well to be drilled in California - in 1865.  The well ran dry after a few years, but the name stayed, and if there was oil there then, surely there is more somewhere there now.  As oil reserves dry up elsewhere, the gas/oil industry will seek other places, even the lost coast ... even here in Mendocino County.  MStJ.

Yes, there are natural gas deposits that have been identified in the Eel River basin.
