A conversation with another CRNMC member this morning sparked this idea.

Imagine you worked for a corporation that had its sights on the
Monterey Shale formation and the people there were starting to get
politically active around fracking. What would you do? And especially
what would you do when you got wind of a Community Rights Ordinance
that would strip corporate power. One thing you would do is find a way
to steer the conversation to how unlikely fracking would happen there.
You might commission a study that showed that the deposit smaller
than anticipated. Anything to lull the people into thinking there
are no worries here. Anything to covertly derail efforts to get the
ordinance on the ballot.

Remember, whether fracking is likely or not in Mendocino County, we're
really saying the people of Mendocino County have the right to decide.
