Tomorrow is a critical day in the effort to ban fracking in communities across 
California. On Thursday, I am joining our friends in California's Mendocino 
County to deliver over 6,000 signatures to the Elections Department in Ukiah to 
ensure that the community rights ordinance to ban fracking in Mendocino County 
is placed on the November ballot.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, 100% of California is now facing 
"severe," "extreme," or "exceptional" drought. And with fracking, a highly toxic 
and water intensive energy extraction method, slated to come to Mendocino County 
in 2015, residents are seeking to preserve the water supply and stop fracking 
from happening.
The ordinance -- the first of its kind -- would allow the residents to assert 
their right to protect the community and local water by banning fracking and 
banning the use of local water for fracking outside the county. The ordinance 
will also ban the dumping or transport of toxic fracking waste in Mendocino 
County---including banning the trafficking of offshore fracking fluids.
