I have a few thoughts, which I'd be happy to send along in the next hour, but I don't want to write them up if it has been finalized. Can someone please send me the most recent draft? Thanks.
Best, Shannon

Dear Meg, Please consider what I have suggested one last time. I have tried to explain it more clearly. The fact is our ordinance does not affirm the rights of natural communities and ecosystems. It does affirm their right to exist and flourish without harm resulting from fracking. ________________________________________
and Peter, I left "Rights of natural communities......." b/c that's what it says in the ordinance. And I tried to get WATER in there b/c that's what this USED to be about. Meg___________________________________________
In the half sheet it states:
Affirms the rights of natural communities and ecosystems.
In Section 2.(c) of the ordinance states: Rights of Natural Communities and Ecosystems. Natural communities and ecosystems possess rights to exist and flourish within Mendocino County without harm resulting from the unconventional extraction of hydrocarbons.
If the half sheet stated:
Affirms the rights of natural communities and ecosystems without harm
resulting from the unconventional extraction of hydrocarbons.
That would be a true and fair statement.
We must change the way the legal system views the natural world by crafting and adopting new laws that change the status of natural communities and ecosystems from being regarded as property under the law to being recognized as rights-bearing entities. I hope we might think about addressing this broader issue as a next step in protecting our County.
No one more than I would like to uphold the rights of natural communities. Thanks for your consideration, PeterPS. I don't require a response. I will wait for the final that you good folks put out.

This simple version got passed around today to quite a few people who liked it and seemed to get it, and a Cuban friend offered to translate it. The website can be added and the facebook page will be functioning soon, we can assume? I changed "chemical tresspass" to "pollution", and Peter, I left "Rights of natural communities......." b/c that's what it says in the ordinance. And I tried to get WATER in there b/c that's what this USED to be about. Meg

Hi Andy,
Cool. I think its too wordy though, perhaps short and sweet is easier for people to take in. Also, we can recommend Gasland on either Facebook or our website that is being created.
I added our Facebook info per your suggestion - here it is.

Thanks, Caitlin!
I think it's important to have some contact info for our group, at least.
Here is my version, based on Ali's. We thought it would be good to have a website about fracking too, not everyone already knows how bad it is.
I simplified words like chemical trespass to pollution.

Caitlin, better and fewer words. That's good.
Not sure people will understand this: "Empowers community residents legal standing to enforce these rights." I think we should replace it with something about "the rights of people are superior to corporate power."
And maybe replacing "chemical trespass" with pollution. Just to make it simple for those who haven't studied these topics.
