Greetings all,
Sorry if I¹ve not followed every email on this thread and I¹m repeating
anything you already know. Setting up the bank account is essential, and
tracking money yes can be done with quickbooks, but it can also be done with
paper and pen it does not have to be complicated, as we are not talking
hundreds or even tens of thousands of dollars. (obviously a spreadsheet is
probably the easisest, even excel).
You must track all money in and the source (some cash from passing the hat
is fine too its OK if you can¹t track that exactly).
You must track in-kind gifts that are elections related meaning if someone
pays for flyers or lawn signs and then donates them, you must track that.
Sitting down with someone lovely and helpful from the elections
office/county clerk should clear up all your questions about how to track
funds.
This is particularly important once you get issued a ballot number (Measure
C, etc.) but they prefer you begin now, as you are already technically
forwarding a particular piece of legislation. Its good to get their exact
answer as to what is educational about the rights-based framework (for
example the stickers we made (see att.) are educational they do not
instruct or promote a piece of legislation and what is elections related.
Hope this is a little helpful.
Shannon
