Melissa Lucio was sentenced to death in 2008 for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Mariah — a crime that never occurred. Mariah died after accidentally falling down a flight of stairs while the family was moving homes.<br>
<br>
But police took Melissa into custody and, on the night of her daughter’s death, aggressively interrogated her for hours. Exhausted and grieving, Melissa eventually said, “I guess I did it,” and made other inadvertent admissions to end the questioning. Her statements
were then characterized by a corrupt prosecution as a confession to murder.<br>
<br>
Now, there are so many doubts about Melissa’s case and a lot of people are speaking out in support of clemency for the mother of 12 — but she’s still scheduled to be executed by the State of Texas on April 27.<br>
