<p>Hello, all. Happy New Year.</p>
<p>As you may know, there was a devastating fire last week in Rotary District 5130, in downtown Arcata. There was no loss of life. However, it was a sad event to start the year, and the loss of longtime local businesses is something that was deeply felt and especially close to home as it affected several of Arcata Sunrise’s own members.</p>
<p>Per President Tom Tellez: “The most important role is to lead with compassion and patience. While the instinct to reach out and help is strong, and deeply appreciated, I ask that we give space for the moment. Those most directly affected are still processing, assessing next steps, and caring for their people. Many residents displaced from their homes are still in shock and navigating the most basic immediate needs.”</p>
<p>As District Governor, I ask that you hold our Arcata neighbors, business owners, and first responders in your thoughts, and trust that we will act together—at the right time and in the right way. Ironically, I had a Humboldt visit planned for Tuesday-Saturday of next week, and I’m thankful that I can be there to survey the situation, give comfort to our members, and keep you all informed.</p>
<p>Here’s how you can help:</p>

<li>Give to the District 5130 Disaster Relief Fund. <a href="https://www.rotary5130.org/district-disaster-response-plan/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">District Disaster Relief Fund | Rotary International District 5130</a> We will meet as a Rotary board to determine the best way to disseminate these funds, including purchasing gift cards for more immediate needs (as we have done in the past). This is the best place to donate financial resources, FYI.</li>
<li>Review this website for a list of particular needs/recipients in the area.
