<html><head></head><body><div class="ydpb1aa8591yahoo-style-wrap" style="font-family:Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size:16px;"><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Matt, I and LaDonna supported by Jason Island, our engineer, met with County Planning, DOT and HRB staff today to talk about the sidewalk and drainage of Rotary Park and we hit a home run. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">The objective was to explore options for the alignment of the sidewalk and related drainage, and map out a strategy for moving ahead.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">The underlying problem is the huge eucalyptus tree on our land near the intersection of Lansing and Main. The sidewalk cannot be constructed as designed in that area due to the presence of the tree, the roots of which extend completely across the location presently proposed for the sidewalk.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">The County staff were well-informed, and helpful. This is what we found and decided, subject to review by our Mendocino Rotary Foundation Board:</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">1. We will pursue an alignment for the pathway that routes the pathway on a curved alignment north of the eucalyptus tree, then back to Main Street. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">2. The material for the pathway segment around the tree may be gravel or wood, details to be settled but either gravel or wood are likely to be ok. The HRB would probably prefer wood but gravel could also be used and we could sell stones there.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"> </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">3. The material for the sidewalk segment along Main Street (now about 90' as compared to about 150' in the original design) will be portland cement concrete, finished as required by the HRB and the County.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">4. We will write a letter to County Planning seeking approval for a minor alternation in our site plan and permit.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">5. Jason will look at the geometry of the alignment we are proposing, from the standpoint of ADA compliance and how the curbcut can be handled. Once that is done, we can ask Debbie to finalize the site plan modifications.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">6. The County cannot provide funding but they will consider an allowance for extended expiration dates in the new permit.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">7. The Club Foundation Board has approved an initial amount of $25,000 which we can use to get the ball rolling. LaDonna is looking at other funding options including a fundraiser. We continue to pursue funding from the Community Foundation and will let you all know as that develops.
