He was in the local hospital with pneumonia. I visited him there yesterday, and he was in no distress.</span><br class=""><span class=""></span><br class=""><span class="">His heart had been slowly failing for years. John and I had discussed end of life issues several times over the years, and he was adamant about not being placed on life support. </span><br class=""><span class=""></span><br class=""><span class="">He did not fear death, supported by his Christian faith and the comfort of having lived a principled, productive life.
