There will be music, dance, tables hosted by 13 NGOs and ourselves, lots of people to meet, things to learn about pollinators and a water ceremony. Bring your families (especially kids) and friends, and let's enjoy the afternoon and the company. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">For Rotary this will be a chance to do some fund raising and promote membership in our club. We will have a table, decorated with Rotary banners, and flyers for the Foundation and the Club. The table will be manned by Jerry, myself, Toby, Donna and others. We will put up some Rotary decorations and have flyers and a donation jar on the table. This will be a good chance to promote the club and reach out to other clubs, so please plan to join us on the day.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">World Bee Day proper will be on Thursday May 20 and I believe the Bee Bold Alliance will show a recording of our celebration on the 16th</div><div dir="ltr">.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">On Thursday May 20 we will have a normal club meeting, by zoom, with David Latoof speaking on fire protection. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">We can talk on the 20th about how we will wind up the month, but as of now we are thinking of an in-person meeting or possibly a retreat at my house, 12101 Alderwood Rd, Mendocino, at which we will talk about our social, lunch and fund-raising activities for next year, and about any projects that are being planned by the various committees. We will also discuss the nominations for officers as made by our nominating committee (presently myself and Toby, let one of us know if you would like to be a member). </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Please let Toby and I know if you would like to be on the Board and/or we will be reaching out to each of you.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Yesterday at the Foundation meeting in the Park we talked about next year's district grant project, and it was decided that the Foundation will identify a project in the Park. According to the rules for District Grants, it should address one of the Rotary focus of service areas (environment is one of these), it may not be begun until it is approved by the District, and it must be completed during the year. From past experience it appears the District prefers physically tangible projects, so something such as a bicycle rack or additional landscaping or planting would be ideal. We should be able to talk about this at the next Foundation meeting.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Two years ago I believe we received a request from the school district for funding a scoreboard for the grammar school, which we postponed because the school gymnasium was not being used during the pandemic. If that request still stands we could consider it as well. A District grant this year is expected to be $2,400 so if we match with our own funds we would have a total project of 4,800. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">We could do a combo of something in the Park and the scoreboard. Need however to have realistic cost estimates. Avenue of Service Chairs, pl get busy!!</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Your Club Officers are investigating venues for in-person meetings, which we hope will start in June, and it looks like St Anthony's may be the best choice for now. We are looking for a restaurant where we can order al a carte, but have not found one yet. The Mendocino Hotel is not serving and has no plans to serve lunches at this time. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">As we move to the end of the pandemic, we hope that members who have not been attending meetings will get back in the habit and do what they can to help our club grow.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Last but not least, Mike Sandys is putting together a list of Rotary paraphernalia to get the end of this year and the start of next year off to a good start.
