As you make some of your final preparations for your term as club president, I wanted to remind you that one of my pet projects during our term is the promotion of peace through out our respective communities.

To that end, I'm in the process of forming a District Peace Committee and am seeking members from throughout the district to serve on that committee. However, if you support my endeavor, I ask that you also consider appointing one of your members as your club's Peace Service Chair.

Peace and conflict resolution/prevention is one of Rotary’s six areas of focus. Therefore, my goal is for the district to provide support for a Rotarian in each club to facilitate Rotary Peace Building work.

Once established, our District 5130 Peace Committee will be available to assist you in these endeavors.

If you could respond back to me with the name of any member in your club that may be interested in serving on the district committee, as well as the name of a member in your club that you believe will be the best one to serve as your Club’s Peace Service Chair and also interact with the District’s Peace Committee. This designated Rotarian can be a past president, your Int’l or Community Service Chair, or a new member who has a particular interest in Peace. We are hoping for a 2-year commitment to encourage continuity.

Peace Service Chairs could enhance:

Promotion of Rotary Peace Conferences (I am hoping to put on a district peace conference).

Encouragement to their club to have speakers on Peace topics, (speaker’s bureau forthcoming).

Seeking Peace Scholars applicants and inviting Peace Fellow Alumni to join Rotary.

Garnering support for Rotary Peace Projects: Globally, in 5130, and/or creating a Club Peace Project in your immediate community.

The RI Convention in Atlanta, in 2017 will emphasize Peace building/conflict prevention. As a result, Club Peace Reps will give our district a head start in building towards next year.

I look forward to hearing from you and as always, am available to answer any questions you may have.

Warmest regards,

Wulff Reinhold, District Governor-Elect
