<span><em>H.R.___, the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 2017</em>, is so half-baked and ill-considered, it doesn't even have a bill number yet! If passed into law, it would launch unprecedented thousands of truck, train, and/or barge shipments of irradiated

Bloomberg</a> has revealed. Franklin L. Haney got the subsidy even though he had not yet purchased the mothballed Bellefonte nuclear plant in Alabama, which he later won in an auction for $111 million. Another condition of the tax credit, that the 40-year old
partially-built plant must use "advanced technology," was "laughable," a DOE official told Bloomberg. Now Haney is courting Trump, who must appoint five of nine board members to the Tennessee Valley Authority, the likely customer for Bellefonte's electricity.
But TVA has already declared Bellefonte redundant. Bloomberg reports that "Haney has been lobbying officials on legislation that would extend the tax credit allocations that he'd already won for Bellefonte." But, as Chris Gadomski, an analyst for Bloomberg
New Energy Finance, pointed out: "Skeptics would be justified in wondering how reviving 1960s-era nuclear reactors that have been questionably maintained for decades represents a viable economic opportunity."
