<span style="color:#000000; font-size:13px; line-height:19px">On Friday the <i>Overturn Citizens United Act</i>, SB 254, passed the Senate in an overwhelming vote of 26-to-12! Now it's up to Governor Brown to let us vote!<br>
<br>
SB 254 will <strong>put a measure on the Nov ballot to let voters instruct Congress and the legislature to amend the U.S. constitution</strong> to overturn <em>Citizens United,</em> and say that corporations aren't people and money isn't speech.<br>
<br>
Every Democrat voted "Yes" on SB 254 Unfortunately, no Senate Republicans did, even though Republican voters hugely support overturning <i>Citizens United</i>, just as other voters do. In the Assembly, SB 254 did get bipartisan support when Republican Assemblymember Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) voted for it.<br>
<br>
<strong>Now SB 254 is headed to Gov. Brown's desk, and he'll decide soon whether to let Californians exercise their right to vote on this fundamental issue. </strong><br>

<span style="color:#000000; font-size:13px; line-height:19px">SB 254 moved swiftly through the legislature thanks to the efforts of authors Senators Ben Allen (D-Redondo Beach) and Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), the leadership of Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) and Senate President pro Tem Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles), and Assemblymember Das Williams (D-Carpinteria) who presented the bill on the Assembly floor. Not to mention the tireless work of Michele Sutter from the bill's sponsor Money Out Voters In.<br>

<strong>This victory for SB 254 came after more than 20,000 people like you</strong> signed our Clean Money petitions and hundreds called their Senators, along with supporters from our allies at MOVI and Free Speech for People. Also weighing in was a great coalition including the American Sustainable Business Council, California Alliance for Retired Americans, California Common Cause, California Labor Federation, California Teachers Association, CALPIRG, Courage Campaign, Democracy for America, Free Speech for People, Friends of the Earth U.S., and Move to Amend.<br>
