Hi Jessie - and Happy 2015! I hope you are well
and feeling happy

I wish you had been there too. I left the meeting feeling really
energized. I am guessing that there were around 30 or so people in
attendance. It was a casual exchange of ideas, suggestions and
some discussion on things like:

Where do we go from here, now that we successfully passed Measure
S?
Did the language used in Measure S afford us more far-reaching
benefits than we realized?
What specific changes still need to be addressed in our
communities?
What "on the ground"activities or strategies can we think of to
move forward and implement solutions?
How do we become a
more cohesive, sharing and collaborative network?

I made a few new and much appreciated connections (in the
areas of local food, time banks, solutions to homelessness, and
MRC's consistent applications of persistent poisons.) I also
gained a much needed sense of validation.
In this world of video-game frenzy, and WII couch

And I also respect Becky Walker very highly, and the
fact that she
mentions the murder of Officer Fiorentino is important,
as she knows
that the emotion about that event remains high and
charged. Sadly,
there are people who mistake protests against any
officer as protest
against their fallen heroes, and some of those people
are very likely
to attend this tournament. Becky said it precisely: FB
does not have
the resources to deal with potential confrontations, so
let's do
nothing that could invoke such arguments, and ruin the
event for the
players who have trained hard and well.

PLEASE let the kids who have decided to participate
enjoy their
sports
time, and leave those with concerns to educate their
peers. They'll
educate peers better than we, and Occupy can work on
education in other
venues.
People are NOT coming to the tournament for
enlightenment or
education. Success is knowing where to choose our
battles, and this
should NOT be one of them.
