The Supreme Court just sided with right-wing ideologues and gutted women’s right to birth control coverage under the Affordable Care Act.<sup>1</sup></strong></p><p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">This is devastating news for the 51% of Black women ages 18-35 for whom high cost has made it difficult to maintain consistent access to birth control.<sup>2</sup>Now health decisions, for women who work at certain private corporations, are left to our bosses.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><strong>This unacceptable reality can only be changed if we show Congress and politicians that we won't stand for this — and that if they don't drop the attacks on our health care, we'll drop them.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></strong>We have a chance to do that in November.</p><p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">In this election, Black women will be a powerful force. In 2013, Black women made the difference in the Virginia Governor's race, blocking Tea Party darling Ken Cuccinelli and his extreme attacks on women's health.<sup>3</sup> As politicians decide how to respond to this decision, they need to know Black women support affordable access to birth control. </p><p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">That's why we're teaming up with our friends at UltraViolet.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><strong>If tens of thousands of us speak with one loud voice, candidates and elected officials will distance themselves from this decision and think twice before they push further attacks on women's right to health care.</strong><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>That's how we'll begin the process to build our majority for birth control and reverse this decision as soon as possible. Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Republican Governors and legislatures across the country have blocked Medicaid expansion denying millions of low-income people access to affordable, quality healthcare. </p><p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">Right now, candidates and party leaders are trying to figure out how to respond, and right-wing politicians are planning more attacks on birth control.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><strong>Our job is to make clear this simple fact: if you don't support affordable access to birth control, you don't support Black women--and that will cost you votes.</strong></p><p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">The news over the next few days must show hundreds of thousands of us, even millions, rising up against this decision to force a stop to these attacks on women's health care. We need candidates running away from this decision in order to reverse it, and we can make it happen.
