For nearly 50
years the Voting Rights Act (VRA) was viewed as the crown
jewel of civil rights legislation. During that time, the
Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Act four
times. In a dramatic reversal of this history, the Supreme
Court struck down a key provision of the VRA in the summer of
2013. In an interactive and visually stunning presentation,
Professor Emenaker will narrate the history of VRA and predict
the future struggles for voting rights.

comments in the press on state and local politics, he has made
guest appearances on NBC affiliates as a political analyst,
and he has been a political commentator on local radio. Last
summer he attended numerous sessions of the Supreme Court
while serving as the Supreme Court analyst for several
NBC affiliates. SCOTUSblog, the premier news and research site
on the Supreme Court, recently featured his research on
Court-Congress relations and also published his article on why
the Supreme Court should uphold the Voting Rights Act. He has
upcoming articles appearing in the Journal of Legal Metrics
and the Journal of Political Science Education.
