In 2012 the Center for Biological Diversity helped smack down a misguided Caltrans highway-widening proposal that would have damaged the ancient redwood grove at Richardson Grove State Park. <b>The plan sought to widen Highway 101 and slice through the root systems of a grove of ancient trees in the state park</b> -- all to increase access for oversized commercial trucks in rural Humboldt County.<br clear="none">
<br clear="none">
But Caltrans just can't stomach the defeat. Even after a sternly worded remand from a federal court that determined the agency had been "arbitrary and capricious," Caltrans has come back with another inadequate analysis of the Richardson Grove project. <u>It vows to begin construction in mid-2014.</u><br clear="none">
