<p>Actually, there is a state program to rehouse homeless people that pays for deposits. It will pay for a deposit that is equal to up to two full months of rent. They will also pay for deposits to connect services, such as water, electric, etc. To get it, one just needs to go down to the Social Services office on Franklin St. Anyone who is on SSI, SSDI, food stamps, GA, or CalWorks is just about guaranteed to qualify. I know this because I used the program to move into my place last year. </p>
<p>Also, for anyone working on the local homeless services issue, you should definitely read this from the Anderson Valley Advertiser. Apparently, Mendo village isn't so receptive to "street people" (their words, not mine) anymore.</p>

In a meeting with City employee, Jennifer Owens in late April,<br>
current services and the financing of those services for people in<br>
transition were discussed.<br>
<br>
The City of Ft. Bragg currently gets grant money from the Federal<br>
gov't for the Hospitality House (HH), a non profit organization set up to<br>
provide food , shelter & laundry facilities to people without homes. The<br>
grants are for renovation costs only--operational costs are raised through<br>
fundraisers. The HH has to provide the City proof that they are serving<br>
the required number of clients through intake application forms.<br>

In recent months, the H H has also taken responsibility for the<br>
administration for the Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center which is county<br>
funded. Located in the Franklin St. mall (near the DMV), the Center<br>
provides day services through a voucher system.<br>

The Transitional House (located on Harrison St.) is also county funded<br>
through HUD monies. It's purpose is to allow clients to transition into<br>
independent housing. It requires clients to provide one third of their<br>
income for housing. It is also managed by HH.<br>
The Red House, also County funded and managed by HH, is a club model<br>
for those with mental health problems. It provides shower facilities.<br>
<br>
The City also receives grant funding for the operation of the Homeless<br>
Mental Health Prevention program. It is run by the Hospitality Center in<br>
collaboration with the Mendocino Coast Clinic. Clients are assigned a case<br>
manager who sees that medical,dental and psychiatric care are available to<br>
those in need.<br>

The Community Housing Development Corporation receives Federal funding<br>
to provide low cost housing to those who meet eligibility requirements.<br>
<br>
In regard to funding to provide security deposits for people without<br>
housing, Ms. Owens suggested that grants from private organizations could<br>
be researched through the Internet.<br>
<br>
Federal grants usually require a non profit status, something that can<br>
be arranged by using a current non profit (such as Safe Passages) to be<br>
the 'umbrella' group under which funds would be administered.<br><br>
