I heard 4 sources (including NPR) say that trust in fellow humans
is fundamental to good mental health.<br>
That fundamental quality seems critical in forming and maintaining
solid relationships & community. <br>
Thanks for your advocacy Scott.<br>

<div>Dear Fellow Listerv People,</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I'm old school. I learned graphic art in the days of
galleys and wax. Then </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>it progressed into desktop publishing. Did that for a
while. Then stopped.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Because everybody with a computer could do it.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Took up business development after that. Cold calling.
Person-to-person.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Then automated marketing came along. Now everybody with a
computer</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>is doing it. Sort of. But I'm still doing it.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Finally I happened upon KZYX. A spare time project. Looking
to see why in</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>the world cornerstone nonprofits were doing so badly here.
Sure enough,</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>automation was in the works locally too. Everywhere.
Especially at KZYX.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Here's the plan. It started with a chat room honcho by the
name of John</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Coate. Hired to displace community radio in favor of NPR.
Starting with</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>individual programmers. The feistiest went first. As
always. Heads rolled</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>after that. Nonstop. Until the feisty were gone. And the
vanilla remained</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Finally Mister Coate went bye-bye. Thrown under the bus by
his betters.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I've seen this in the cold-calling business. Time after
time. Like the legend</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>of John Henry. Technology brought in to do the work of man.
Succeeding </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>in once sense. But failing in another -- relationships.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Remember Phaedra Savage? Or Beth Bosk? What about Sister
Yasmin?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Or Els Cooperider? I didn't agree with them, but I had a
relationship with</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>them. All of them. Do I have the same relationship with
NPR? No I don't.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>The idea of automated radio is playing itself out. Right
here. As we speak.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Ultimately, we'll lost this battle. And succumb to NPR.
Automated radio.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Along with ideas sponsored by people like John Coate. But
until then, I'll</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>continue being an advocate for relationships.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
