<body class='hmmessage'><div dir='ltr'>Hi All,<div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I've been studying the KZYX/MCPB situation for a while.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>I've been through reams of financial statements. Minutes, Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation, and various policies ad </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>nauseum. I've also made contact with all levels of management. From station manager up to President of the Board </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>of <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Directors. Along with individual directors. I've also been to one board of directors meeting where a member was </span></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>arrested for <span style="font-size: 12pt;">reasonable -- in my opinion -- public comment.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;">This study has been part of a nearly three-year project. To examine at the nonprofits of Mendocino County, and to </span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;">compare them with nonprofits outside the region. What I found here was remarkable. Not just with KZYX/MCPB.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;">But with lots of Mendocino County nonprofits. Where nonprofit </span>management works against their charters to keep </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>public nonprofits private. At the peril of their nonprofit missions. This doesn't happen outside the region. It only </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>happens here. And not just with KZYX/MCPB. Arguably a centerpiece of Mendocino County nonprofits. But with </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>other centerpiece nonprofits as well.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>It's difficult to understand the reason for this situation. And impossible to determine at this time. Possibly much </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>easier after-the-fact. So no point in speculating for now.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>What I can give you is a forecast. Based on two separate trends: Growth and Risk.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>The Growth trend is based on internal Form 990s. Filed under penalty of perjury. Over a ten-year period. The Risk </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>trend is <font size="3">based on external Form 990s. From all KZYX/MCPB </font>grant makers<font size="3">. Also filed under penalty of perjury. And</font></div><div><font size="3"><br></font></div><div><font size="3"><br></font></div><div><font size="3">compliance with individual grant </font><span style="font-size: 12pt;">maker agreements.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br></span></div><div>All factors considered, KZYX/MCPB will likely see a major economic downturn over the next six-month time period</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>This downturn will be evidenced in layoffs, downsizing, and programming / signal degradation. And possibly </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>bankruptcy.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>There's no such thing as a 100% accurate forecast. But all things considered, I'm reasonably certain of the accuracy </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>of this forecast.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Sincerely,</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Scott M. Peterson</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Mendocino</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>PS: I'm happy to eat a health serving of crow if I'm wrong!</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>                                            </div></body>
