And I would add, the person who first told us, on his Access program at KZYX, about the days in the late 70s (I think) when candidates for 5th District were chosen in a series of open "circles" or conventions. That sounds pretty damned American to me, by which I mean really democratic. Maybe that kind of politics will return to our county.<div><div><div>Thanks...king</div><div><div><br></div><div>* * * *<br><div><div><div>On Mar 2, 2014, at 9:11 PM, Norman de Vall wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><div style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">King,<div>Please add my name, Norman L. de Vall, P.O.Box 3, Elk 95432</div><div>member since the beginning.</div><div>and you have permission to /s/ sign my name for me with a "by KC".</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div><div>On Mar 2, 2014, at 5:58 PM, King Collins wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><blockquote type="cite"><div style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">To Erif, and others who may want to sign the KZYX petition.<div><br></div><div>1) If you don't have access to a computer, you can send your address to me at the snailmail address below and I will mail a hardcopy to you, or</div><div><br></div><div>2) Come to the KZYX board meeting 6pm Monday where the petition will be circulating, or<br><div><div><br></div><div>3) Download the petition to your computer and print it out. </div>
<div>About a month ago, I sought out Dan Hamburg and John McCowen
to get their opinions on the petition, Both liked the idea of
requiring the board to communicate with members. Dan signed
immediately, and John said he would sign when we got closer to
our goal of 5% of members. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>But John is a hero to the members of our radio station. He
actually came in the last meeting. This is what he said to the
board:</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>JOHN McCOWEN: Don't shy away from controversy. Address it
directly in an Open Lines format. Stop ostracizing your critics.
Let more people in. Follow the board procedures and publish
them on the website.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>So we know where John McCowen stands.</div>

</div>
<div>THE PETITION. I went out for the first time yesterday to get
signatures, I decided to start at a hotbed of progressives, the
Ukiah Farmers Market. It turned out great. I had a lot of
interesting conversations, two hours worth. Everyone I talked
to signed. The petition has a checkbox for those who are
listeners or ex-members as well as members. I got 30 signatures,
and of those 8 are members. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>The experience shows there is plenty of support in Ukiah for
the board to communicate with the members. I could have gotten
many more signatures, and I'm sure we will eventually get the
120 member signatures we need to put the bylaws change on the
ballot.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>In case you haven't seen it, below is the petition, and I
have a lovely cartoon of McCowen, Jimmy Humble, Doug McKenty,
David Steffen, Sheila and others speaking before the the board
at the October 2014 meeting. (<a moz-do-not-send="true" href="http://www.greenmac.com/">www.greenmac.com</a>)</div>
