Hi Kelly - I don't think anybody
decided to "get rid of" Open Lines, despite what McKenty and
Sacowicz would have you believe. The show's host, Doug McKenty,
is suspended because he failed to follow the procedure that had
been established when a caller dropped the F-bomb on-air - despite
the fact that he had been given explicit written directions after
a previous occurrence. The show had problems before that and
McKenty has filed a grievance, protesting his suspension, so we'll
see how it all works out.

Membership was not consulted because it was a violation of an
explicit policy (and FCC has in the past taken a hard line, fining
broadcasters for exactly this sort of casual infraction), and
because membership is never consulted prior to programming
changes. When you think about it, there isn't really any way to
actually do that; and even if there were, it would be an
impossible way to run a radio station. That's why there is a
full-time Program Director position.

It's my understanding that not everyone who submits a show
proposal gets the green light, so I suppose that means there are
some people wanting to do different shows who are not allowed to
do so. Adding a new show means canceling an existing show, and
the new one has to demonstrate at least the potential to be better
than the one it replaces.
Cheers,
I would like to weigh in on the value of open lines and trading

They are the two shows where I can hear my neighbor on the

That is community radio!!!!
I find many shows to be difficult listening, so I don't listen.
I do not try to stop others from their enjoyment.
Who made the decision to get rid of Open Lines?
Why was the membership not consulted?
It seems like Mr. Coate has done a great job with the finances,
but the lack of transparency is disconcerting.
Are there people wanting to do different shows but are unable
to?
I sure hope they have allotted enough time at the next board
meeting, I think there may be a lot of questions.
