Sheila - This would be great, if only
you had also provided the equivalent numbers for KZYX before
drawing comparative conclusions. How can you say things like "it
is evident that KMUD puts way more into the community via salaries
& professional services than does KZYX" without showing us
both sets of figures?

Now, having said that, it would be rather surprising if KMUD did
not have a larger salary component, since they have a larger
staff. That's probably how they are also able to do more
community events/fundraisers; just as KZYX used to do, back when
they had 7 full-time staff. (One year they brought in $87K from
special events, when Kat Blaisdell was doing that full-time. I
miss her!)

I believe KZYX is doing 3 pledge drives this year, not 4, unless
you are counting the special one-day "flash drives." In any case,
that is certainly interacting with the community of listeners.
I'd love to see more programmers taking the initiative to do
special events under the KZYX banner, as I have done. Community
support has been fantastic and everybody benefits.
A bit dry but it is evident that KMUD puts way more into the
community via salaries & professional services than does KZYX.
Why can't KZYX be as transparent with its employees salaries? Note
the large figure for fundraising expenses. KMUD makes a huge
effort to interact with the community vs. KZYX getting its revenue
from increased pledge drives --doubled last year from 2 per year
to 4 per year.
