Although yesterday, Friday, was National Divestment Day, I just thought
you might be interested in this. <br /><br />The last time that the
MCPBC met with Shari Shapmire, our County Treasurer, about 2 months ago,
we handed her a list of the 100 biggest petroleum companies and the 100
biggest coal companies and asked her to divest the County's money from
these companies. <br /><br />Shari looked over the list and said
that there is only one company on the list that the county invests in,
Occidental Petroleum. I mentioned to her that a subsidiary of
Occidental Petroleum, Vintage Petroleum, owns the exploratory fracking
leases in the Eel River Basin. Shari raised her eyebrows and
responded, "Oh!" with a tone of surprised interest. <br
/><br />If we want to demonstrate for divestment, we should do it in front
of the County Administration Building for our Treasurer to divest from
