<div dir="ltr"><div>Hello fellow CRNMC members,<br><br>Dan Gjerde called me
yesterday and told me about a wonderful opportunity that we have. The
NOAA is going to open the process of declaring marine sanctuaries. Now
communities will have the authority to propose a new marine sanctuary.<br><br>He
and Dan Hamburg would like to set up a meeting with all interested
folks and organizations interested in expanding the marine sanctuary
from Point Arena north. There we can work out what we would like to see
as the next marine sanctuary on the North Coast.<br><br>The two Dans would like to see this (the marine sanctuary expansion) happen within 6 months.<br><br>Dan
G also told me that in order for the community to be successful in
proposing a marine sanctuary, we have to be able to demonstrate majority
support in our community for the new sanctuary. The two Dans think they
can achieve a unanimous support from the Board of Supervisors. <br><br>Dan
G said we would also need at least a majority of the City Council
behind. He said that Lindy Peters appears to be in favor of fracking or
offshore drilling for oil here. I read in the last Advocate article on
the candidate forum that Peters is in favor of a desalination plant
here. He also "spoke of growing existing businesses and even mining for
mineral in the ocean"<br><br>Gee I wonder what mineral he's talking
about - oil, natural gas maybe? Gjerde suggested making Peters define
what he means by mining minerals and exposing his views widely. We
certainly don't need him on the Fort Bragg City Council.<br><br></div>Ed O.<br></div>
